Things to do

This section of Fife’s Tay Coast is a beautiful part of the Scottish countryside and an ideal base for those who enjoy golfing, cycling, walking, trail running, bird watching and water sports (or just hiding away) — it’s also a haven for those who enjoy quality food and drink, with provenance.

Our 537 acres of farmland is a veritable playground, stretching over both hills, which offer stunning views across to Ben Vorlich and the southern part of the Highlands, and flat fields, which meet the River Tay.

Golfing

Play golf in Fife, The Home of Golf, where there are over 50 courses, most notably the Old Course in St Andrews, where you can cheer on the best in the world at The Open or, every autumn, The Dunhill Cup.

Take a private lesson and practice your swing at the state-of-the-art St Andrews Links Golf Academy with PGA Qualified professionals. The facilities house a Callaway Performance Centre and feature cutting edge technology, 60 flood-lit bays and 22 indoor bays.

Road Cycling and Mountain Biking

Bring your own road bike and cycle the National Cycle Route 777, which runs through the farm, along the river road between Newburgh and Newport-on-Tay. The route links to National Cycle Network Route 1 and the Coasts and Castle North long-distance route at the Tay Road Bridge.

Or, hire an electric bike and cycle around the farm along the Fife Coastal Path, or arrange the very best bespoke e-bike tours of Tay Country with experienced local guides from Progression Bikes, who will take you on ultimate cycling and adventure experiences, tailored to your ability and interests, featuring whisky tastings, intimate dining experiences and a private boat crossing of The River Tay with onboard lunch.

Walking and Trail Running

Walk out of the cottage and take in the fresh air on the 124km Fife Coastal Path, which runs through the farm, and climb Norman’s Law to the remains of an Iron Age hill fort for commanding views in all directions; meander around the Aipple Trail, which skirts our agroforestry apple field; stroll around the Hyrneside Wood Trail, which winds through beautiful old beech trees, and hike up to Park Hill (inscribed with the Duke of Warwick’s emblem of the Bear), for stunning views across the river.

Or walk along the farm’s Riverbank Trail, with ancient stone banking, ruinous fishing bothies (stalwart monuments to the great history of salmon fishing on the Tay), and SSSI reedbeds, bursting with migratory birds.

Water Sports, Boat Rides And The West Sands Beach

Guests who are experienced sailors, paddle boarders and kayakers can access the River Tay along our riverbank. Bring our own board or kayak, or arrange a paddle board or kayak tour with a qualified coach and guide from Willowgate Activity Centre, who offer upstream and downstream tours of the Tay, taking in the beautiful views and abundant wildlife, including seals, otters and beavers. Or book a boat tour of the Tay and cross over to Dundee’s impressive V&A Museum.

Pop into St Andrews for a day on the West Sands Beach, with iconic views of the town, and expansive space for dogs to run free, refreshing dips in the North Sea and Blown Away beach activities, including land yachting and surfing.
